Happy International Women’s Day!
“I am an example of what is possible when girls from the very beginning of their lives are loved and nurtured by people around them. I was surrounded by extraordinary women in my life who taught me about quiet strength and dignity.” Michelle Obama
“International Women’s Day is a worldwide event that celebrates women’s achievements – from the political to the social – while calling for gender equality. It has been observed since the early 1900s and is now recognized each year on March 8. Is is not affiliated with any one group, but brings together governments, women’s organisations, corporations and charities. The day is marked around the world with arts performances, talks, rallies, networking events, conferences and marches.” Telegraph
Anyway, I was doing a little Youtube search for videos on women and came across this movie trailer for the movie Hidden Figures an American biographical drama about African American female mathematicians who worked at NASA during the Space Race between USSR and the US. This film appeals for many reasons – It’s about math and mathematics was my first degree in university; it is about ordinary women who are extraordinary; and it has a quirky sense of humor throughout.
